Marathon Heater, Inc. began in 1996 with three employees and one product, cartridge heaters. Our commitment to customer service and engineering brought rapid growth. In 2002, we were selected by Inc. Magazine as one of the 500 fastest growing privately held companies in the United States.

In 2007, Marathon combined forces with Tempsens Instruments, the largest temperature sensors manufacturer in India with over 35 years experience in temperature measurement. The two companies joined to form Marathon Heater (India) Pvt. Ltd. with a 50:50 percent partnership to manufacture high quality industrial heaters, such as Cartridge, Nozzle, Air, Silicon Rubber, Band, Coil and other heating elements for the overseas market.

After the merger, Marathon grew to employ over 160 people in two locations - our 40,000 square foot headquarters in Texas and 12,000 square foot manufacturing facility in India. In April 2015, Marathon Heater, Inc. was consolidated into NIBE, an international heating technology company based out of Sweden. Marathon continues to run our operations and provide service for our customers under the name Backer Marathon, Inc.

Through the NIBE acquisition, Backer Marathon joined Backer-Springfield and Backer & Alpe to make up the Backer North America Group. The combined business divisions employ approximately 2,200 people with headquarters in Texas, Tennessee and Mexico. With over 100 years of experience in heating component technologies, the Backer Group strives to form a partnership with customers to resolve all heating challenges and new product development needs through engineer design, testing, and value-added capabilities.

Backer Marathon has received its International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 certification. ISO is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies and through its certification process, has acknowledged Backer Marathon's commitment to measuring and reducing its impact on the environment.

The ISO 14000 family of standards provides tools for companies and organizations looking to manage their environmental responsibilities. Global organizations have adopted a systematic approach to environmental management by implementing management systems with the goal of sustainability.

As part of the certification process, Backer Marathon measured its current environmental impact in areas including water, electricity, and material usage as well as recycling programs. The company set out objectives and targets, and developed programs to ensure goals were met.
